Today’s Tulbagh with its 9,000 inhabitants is a wine town in the local municipality of Witzenberg, in the Cape Winelands district of the Western Cape province of South Africa. The town is located approximately 125 kilometers northeast of Cape Town and approximately 92 km northeast of Stellenbosch in the valley of the Little Berg River and is surrounded by a mountain range up to 2,200 meters high.
The Schalkenbosch estate was founded in 1792 by Netherland immigrants. Schalkenbosch is an agricultural jewel with vast plains, hills, fields, mountain slopes, waterfalls and natural water supplies.
